Ron Mainhood Story

Over the last few years, Ron Mainhood has been claiming to be a Colour Sergeant in 2 Para and has been telling false stories about his time in 2 PARA. He claimed he knew Ron Vines who was killed in 1973 in Northern Ireland. This made me suspicious of him. I was with Ron Vines when he was killed by an IRA bomb. Mainhood was not in 2 Para. (how sick is that ?) No way he knew Ron Vines.

He on a regular basis went round schools doing talks in the Gravesend Area Link.

He claims he also has raised £100,000 for charity. Some of this dressed as a Para another deception of the public by Mainhood causing the public to pay to somebody they think is a Para.

When he applied to join the BRITISH LEGION in Gravesend he claimed to be a Colour sergeant in 2 Para.

He held office for Gravesend British Legion and acted as parade marshal conning every ex serviceman on parade, every time ,on many occasions over many years. The sickest thing he done was stand at the Arnhem Cemetery the story is on the clip above.

He even started his own Airborne Forces Association up at the Chequers Inn pub in Higham.

He still is a member of the Trustee Board. of the Elisabeth Huggins Housing Trust The trustee board are aware of what he has done. They have turned a blind eye to it. How irresponsible is that from a trustee board ?

At least Kent Education Authority has now acted and stopped him going around the schools telling his stories to unsuspecting schoolchildren following our tip off. I shudder to think what he has told the children after the false stories he has told us. Just turning up in Para uniform is a deception.

When it was discovered he was false, the Chairman of the Airborne Forces Association and I the Vice Chairman challenged him. He denied this at first. Eventually Mainhood claimed he was in the Royal Suffolks. Another Lie. Our goal was to get him to stop wearing Para Regiment uniform. We told him to stop doing this and go quietly so as to avoid embarrassment to him and his family. It was kept on a need to know basis.

All reasonable requests to prevent him carrying on dressed as a Para failed. He therefore only has himself to blame for the embarrassment he has caused himself his family and friends. Which we were trying to prevent.

Mainhood wrote to the Association a nasty letter around Christmas 2005 challenging us. He was also seen at another parade in Para uniform. Bearing in mind his false identity we were left with no choice but to inform Police. Again this was kept quiet from the press by us to prevent him embarrassment.

At this point Mainhood spoke to the press telling them he had he had nothing to hide. See the story on this link and return. This was in Feb 06 following his attendance at the Police Station. Only at this point did we talk to the Kent Messenger to correct the false information that Mainhood made to the press.

The Kent Messenger then printed the story below at the bottom of the page as by now enough was enough for us with more lies in the paper.

Checks have been made on him by Police through the Army Records Office. I have been informed by Police he is not allowed to wear these medals. Police state if he is seen wearing Para Regiment uniform again they are to be informed. Police stated he has been cautioned for offences relating to the wearing of para uniforms. For a caution, Mainhood would have finally have had to admit he was guilty of the offence.

The checks revealed that Ron Mainhood was only ever a gunner in the Royal Artillery during National Service only doing two years. So this dispels his comments in the paper he has nothing to hide and he keeps his integrity as he claims.

The reason this page is necessary is because Mainhood has been telling so many lies, he is causing distress to members of the Parachute Regiment and the Airborne Forces Association in Gravesend and Medway. (Some who are now elderly and suffer illness have seen active service, lost colleagues and have been injured themselves in combat.) PRA Chairman George Franklin has received unfair criticisms from Mainhood's friends and now the truth needs to be told. The public have a right to know the truth and we have the right of a reply to our critics.

Mainhood is a disgrace, having stood in the cemetery at Arnhem dressed as a Para with false medals mocking the dead. Plus all the other remembrance services he attended. He also claims to know the people in 2 Para that died in Northern Ireland. How could he ?.

A fence has two sides, so this page is for the people that support Mainhood, and failed to listen to the other side of the story before making judgment and attacked George Franklin and I.

May you now go away with this knowledge , after having yourself been fooled like we were, by Mainhood and his false stories.

The page is also for the information of the generous public who may have given him charity money in the Gravesend & local area, and for the ex servicemen that need to know this guy is a Para Imposter.

Mainhood could not pass our rigid selection and Mainhood could only live off of other peoples glory.( including many that had died in combat) He even has turned his back on the dead of his own Regiment by not being proud to say he was in that regiment.

He states below he did Para selection, How indeed could he do selection ?' as looking at his story he was busy in 2 years rising through the ranks from Private to Colour Sergeant and in Suez as well. How did he fit the selection in ? His promotion ceased at Colour Sgt as he still claimed he was a Colour Sgt in 1972. I dont think so do you ?. His claims are utter rubbish. Nothing makes sense here.

Despite all what he has done over many years the Police let him off with a caution on CPS direction this is a disgrace
